To manufacture a product by casting, molten metal is poured in cavity of rectangular cross section in a sand mold with a side blind riser as shown in the figure. The dimensions of the mold cavity are 60 cm x 40 cm x 20 cm.
The riser is cylindrical in shape with diameter equal to height. It is required that the solidification time of the riser should be 25% greater than that of the mold. Using Chvorinov’s rule, the diameter of the riser (rounded off to one decimal place) in cm should be __________.
